Child Support
Parents have certain rights and obligations in regard to their children. All parents have a legal duty to financially support their children. Child support is money a parent pays to help support his or her child. A Texas court may order a parent to support his or her child until the child turns 18 years-old or graduates from high school (whichever occurs later). Texas “guideline support” is a calculation made based upon the number of children entitled to support and the payors “net resources”. The court is not bound to order guideline support and can deviate from this calculation based upon a number of varying factors.
Stewart & Gretch have a wealth of knowledge and understanding concerning the appropriate methods of calculating “net resources” to accurately determine guideline support. We are also experienced in advocating for a deviation from guideline support so that our clients can rest assured the amount of support they are paying or receiving is appropriate for their family’s particular arrangement.
